
Mayor Daley Salutes Real Men Charities
Roast of Guinness World Record-Setting Deejay Herb Kent
Chicago Mayor Richard J Daley has issued the following letter is support of Real Men Charities honoring broadcasting icon Herb Kent “The Cool Gent” for his 65 years in radio at its 3rd Annual Holiday Roast & Toast on Saturday, December 5 at the South Shore Cultural Center from 7 p.m. until midnight.
At the Roast, Kent will be inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records by Guinness representatives for “having the longest career by a deejay” in radio history.
In honor of the occasion, Saturday, December 5 will be proclaimed “Herb Kent Day in Illinois” by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, and “Herb Kent Day in Chicago” by the Chicago City Council.
Quinn and Daley are co-chairs of the Roast and a special VIP Media Reception before the event, from 5:30 – 7 p.m., where Kent will receive the proclamations, the Guinness award, and an official Chicago Bulls jersey with “Herb Kent 65” emblazoned on the back in honor of his years in broadcasting.
Mayor Daley wrote the foreword for Kent’s best-selling autobiography, “The Cool Gent: The Nine Lives of Radio Legend Herb Kent.”
