Damon Harris is a second-generation member of the world famous singing group, “The Temptations”. He was diagnosed at age forty-seven with advanced prostate disease.
Following his diagnosis he was encouraged to established The Damon Harris Cancer Foundation in ‘2000.
Damon uses his acclaim as a platform to encourage all men to proactively address their health concerns. As an African American he emphasizes the importance of awareness
for Black Men as identified by the statistics of incidence, mortality and disparities in health & wellness. It is further import to him that “Young Black Men” take responsibility for their health concerns given his experience.
“Prostate cancer is to men what breast cancer is to women”
As a prostate cancer survivor/advocate he is dedicated to the mission of DHCF having spoken at numerous seminars and conferences nationally, being a guest on television news and talk shows, radio broadcasts and featured in newspaper interviews
of such distinction as the New York Times.
The mission of Damon’ foundation is educate, inform and affect change in prostate cancer and the impact it has on men and their families. Additionally, DHCF has a great interest for children with cancer.
The Damon Harris Cancer Foundation plans to establish a central office in Damon’ hometown of Baltimore, Maryland in 2010.
DHCF is proud to be the host/partner of Real Men Cook Father’s Day Celebration in Baltimore at Fells Point this year and for years to come.
